Unveiling The Fix: A Look at Showmax’s Latest Original Sci-Fi Drama

Showmax, an African streaming service, is set to unveil its latest original sci-fi drama, The Fix, at MIP Africa. This marks the third consecutive year that a Showmax original has opened this prestigious event, which is a branch of MIPCOM. The Fix, written and directed by Kelsey Egan, takes viewers to a dystopian future in Cape Town, South Africa, where the air is toxic.

The storyline revolves around a model who takes a new designer drug at a party and undergoes a shocking transformation. As she discovers that her mutations could potentially save the human race, she finds herself being chased by various forces with conflicting interests in the drug’s effects. The cast includes talented actors such as Grace van Dien, Daniel Sharman, and Clancy Brown, among others.

The Fix had its world premiere at the Chattanooga Film Festival in Tennessee, where it closed the event with a bang. It is the second feature film from director Kelsey Egan, whose debut movie Glasshouse also premiered on Showmax. The Fix is scheduled to debut on Showmax on Thursday, October 31, and international sales are being handled by The Exchange.

Nicola van Niekerk, Acting Head of Content at Showmax, expressed excitement about The Fix, stating that it brings a fresh perspective to South African storytelling. Showmax has been instrumental in opening up new avenues for different types of stories, allowing filmmakers to explore genres that were previously considered unconventional for local TV.

Judy Goddard, the head of partnerships at FAME, expressed delight that The Fix will have its African premiere at FAME Week Africa 2024. The film’s setting in a futuristic Cape Town not only captivates with its visuals and narrative but also showcases the creativity and vitality of African cinema. This premiere serves as a testament to the power of African filmmakers to create impactful stories that resonate globally.

The Fix promises to be a groundbreaking addition to Showmax’s original content lineup. With its unique blend of sci-fi, action, body horror, and superhero origins, the series is set to captivate audiences both locally and internationally. As the African premiere draws near, anticipation is high for what promises to be an unforgettable viewing experience.
