The Postponement of Adele’s Las Vegas Residency

Adele recently announced that she is postponing her “Weekends with Adele” Las Vegas residency through March due to an undisclosed illness. The Grammy award winner explained that she had been sick at the end of the last leg of her tour and throughout her break. Despite not having fully recovered, she resumed her shows only to fall ill again, taking a toll on her voice. Consequently, on doctor’s orders, Adele has been advised to rest thoroughly, leading to the postponement of the remaining five weekends of her residency.

This is not the first time Adele has had to postpone her residency. Initially scheduled to kick off in January 2022, the singer had to delay the start of “Weekends with Adele” due to COVID-19-related delays. In a heartfelt social media post, she revealed that half of her crew and team were down with COVID, making it impossible to proceed with the shows as planned. Despite the disappointment, Adele made the difficult decision to prioritize health and safety over performing.

After rescheduling the shows, Adele’s residency officially began in November, and she surprised fans by announcing an extension with 34 new dates starting in November 2023. Subsequently, she added 32 more shows in October, extending the residency until June of the following year. The “Weekend with Adele” residency has garnered praise from both fans and celebrities, with notable guests such as Kim Kardashian, Jennifer Lopez, and Lady Gaga attending the shows.

During an interview in December 2023, Adele opened up about her self-doubt during performances. She recalled feeling disappointed in her own show when artists like Lady Gaga were in the audience. Despite her success and acclaim, Adele admitted to being highly critical of herself, questioning her singing, humor, and even her wardrobe choices. This vulnerability and self-awareness add a human element to her superstar status, resonating with fans on a deeper level.

As Adele takes the time to focus on her health and recovery, fans eagerly await her return to the stage on May 17. While new dates for the postponed shows have not yet been announced, supporters remain understanding and supportive of Adele’s decision to prioritize her well-being. The postponements serve as a reminder of the importance of self-care and the unpredictable nature of live performances, highlighting the vulnerability and resilience of artists like Adele in the face of challenges.
