Examining Utah’s New NHL Franchise Name Options

Utah, known more for its basketball team than its ice hockey, is getting a new National Hockey League franchise. The team, which will be transferring from the Arizona Coyotes to the Beehive State, has recently revealed six potential nicknames chosen by the state’s fans.

The Utah Blizzard, Utah Hockey Club (Utah HC), Utah Mammoth, Utah Outlaws, Utah Venom, and Utah Yeti are the six names in contention. Surprisingly, the popular choice of the Bees did not make the cut. These finalists were selected after an initial round of fan voting, with over 520,000 votes cast, and more than 60% of them supporting these six options.

Decision Making Process

Fans now have the opportunity to cast their votes once again until June 20th to decide on the final name for the new NHL team in Utah. Once the name is chosen, the team will move forward with designing logos, creating a mascot, and developing branding to match. These elements will be unveiled on the team’s jerseys for the 2025-26 season.

Utah’s NHL team will initially play their home games at Delta Arena, which is currently the home of the Utah Jazz. This exciting development will bring a new level of sports entertainment to Salt Lake City and the surrounding area, diversifying the sports scene in the state.

The emergence of a new NHL team in Utah is generating significant buzz among sports fans in the state. The process of selecting a team name has engaged the community and created anticipation for the team’s debut. With the upcoming season just around the corner, the excitement continues to build for the arrival of Utah’s latest professional sports franchise.
