Rapper Jeezy, whose real name is Jay Jenkins, has recently backtracked on his initial request for full custody of his and Jeannie Mai’s 2-year-old daughter, Monaco. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Jeezy is now seeking to split custody of their daughter with the former “Real” co-host. This change of heart comes after Jeezy claimed that he hardly saw his daughter since entering an informal custody agreement with Mai in late 2023.
In the new motion filed by Jeezy, he alleged that Mai and Monaco moved out of their shared home and he often doesn’t know his daughter’s whereabouts. He also claimed that Mai is keeping Monaco away from him because he owns a gun. However, Jeezy insisted that Monaco has never been affected by his firearm ownership. Furthermore, he mentioned that Mai blocked his number, making it impossible for him to FaceTime Monaco.

According to court documents, Jeezy’s absence from his daughter’s life will detrimentally affect her emotional state. The filing observed by Page Six stated that keeping Monaco away from Jeezy is not in the best interest of the child. Jeezy emphasized that he has been an active and present father throughout Monaco’s life, and Mai’s decision to vacate the marital residence and take Monaco away from him was not in their daughter’s best interest.
Earlier this month, Jeezy had requested primary custody of Monaco citing Mai’s busy schedule, which he argued wasn’t good for their daughter. Mai had previously denied allegations of “gatekeeping” Monaco from Jeezy and expressed her desire to foster an open, supportive, and safe environment for both parents to actively participate. The couple filed for divorce in September after two years of marriage, citing that their marriage was “irretrievably broken.”
