Warner Bros. Reaches $1B Milestone at International Box Office

Warner Bros. has achieved a major milestone in the international box office, crossing the $1 billion mark thanks to the success of two of its blockbuster films – Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. This accomplishment makes Warner Bros. the first studio to reach this milestone in 2024, establishing a new speed record for the studio by achieving this feat in just 15 weeks, surpassing its previous record set in 2018.

The total international estimate for Warner Bros. through today stands at $1.04 billion, with Dune: Part Two leading the charge by grossing $411.8 million offshore and reaching a global cumulative total of $683.9 million. The film, directed by Denis Villeneuve and distributed in 78 markets, has consistently topped the international and global box office charts for three consecutive weekends. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, co-produced with Legendary Entertainment, has also performed admirably, raking in $278.6 million internationally and achieving a worldwide total of $436.6 million. This monster mash directed by Adam Wingard has claimed the top spot at the overseas and global box office for three weeks running.

While the success of these films has been remarkable, there are still several key markets yet to open, including the Middle East and Japan. The partnership with Legendary East in China and Toho in Japan has proven to be instrumental in the distribution of these films in key territories. Additionally, other notable releases such as Wonka, Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom, Eine Million Minuten, and One Life have contributed significantly to Warner Bros.’ international box office success in 2024.

Pam Abdy and Mike De Luca, Co-Chairs & CEOs of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, expressed their pride in achieving this milestone and credited the studio’s marketing and distribution teams, as well as its creative teams and filmmakers, for delivering quality content that resonates with audiences worldwide. Andrew Cripps, Warner Bros. Pictures’ President of International Distribution, lauded the talented global marketing and distribution teams for their exceptional work and expressed gratitude to the exhibition community for their support in making this achievement possible.

Warner Bros.’ success at the international box office with Dune: Part Two and Godzilla x Kong is a testament to the studio’s commitment to delivering top-tier entertainment to global audiences. With a lineup of diverse and compelling films, Warner Bros. continues to set the bar high in the world of cinema.
