Brandon Blackstock Responds to Kelly Clarkson’s Lawsuit

In response to Kelly Clarkson’s recent lawsuit against him, Brandon Blackstock has vehemently denied all allegations, claiming that the labor commissioner’s ruling in November 2023 already settled the matter. According to documents obtained by Page Six, Blackstock argued that since Clarkson failed to file an appeal within 10 days of the decision, she is now outside of the proper jurisdiction to seek additional compensation beyond the $2.6 million that was previously ruled upon. Furthermore, Blackstock and his legal team assert that any supposed proceeds obtained from acting as Clarkson’s “unlicensed talent agency” have already been partially or fully paid out to her and their community estate.

Legal Technicalities

The legal documents filed by Blackstock further contended that Clarkson’s complaint lacks the necessary facts to constitute a valid cause of action against Starstruck Entertainment, the family company through which the disputed oral agreement was made. The documents insisted that the complaint should be dismissed on the grounds of failure to state a claim, adding to the complexities of the legal battle between the ex-spouses.

Clarkson’s lawsuit, filed in March, alleges that Blackstock and Starstruck Entertainment violated California’s Talent Agencies Act by securing employment opportunities for her without the required license. The singer claims that all agreements between the parties should be voided and all proceeds paid to Starstruck should be returned. Clarkson is seeking reimbursement for various payments, including commissions, fees, profits, and advances.

The ongoing legal dispute between Clarkson and Blackstock has escalated since their divorce in 2022. Blackstock’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, has criticized Clarkson’s attempts to reclaim money from her ex-husband, highlighting the financial support he provided for their children and lifestyle during their marriage. The conflict underscores the complexities of mixing personal and professional relationships in the entertainment industry.

Clarkson and Blackstock’s divorce was finalized in 2022, with Clarkson ordered to make significant monthly payments to her ex-husband in child and spousal support. The division of assets and ongoing financial entanglements add another layer of complexity to the legal battle, as both parties seek to protect their interests and financial well-being post-divorce.

The legal back-and-forth between Kelly Clarkson and Brandon Blackstock highlights the challenges of navigating personal and professional relationships in the entertainment industry. As the dispute continues to unfold, it remains to be seen how the legal system will ultimately resolve the complex issues at hand.
