The Evolution of Ricky Martin: From Mexico to Hollywood

Ricky Martin, known for his music career, has also made a name for himself in the acting world. While many may associate Martin with his role in the boyband Menudo, his acting journey actually began in Mexico. During an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live, Martin credited his time in Mexico for his acting preparation. He mentioned having done theater, TV series, and films in Mexico before making his mark in Hollywood.

After leaving Menudo, Martin had the opportunity to star in the musical comedy Mamá Ama el Rock in Mexico City. This experience paved the way for Martin to take on a role in the TelevisaUnivision telenovela Alcanzar Una Estrella II, where he portrayed a member of a pop band. The success of the telenovela led Martin to also star in a film adaptation of the show, further solidifying his acting skills.

General Hospital and Beyond

In 1994, Martin made his American television debut by joining the cast of the ABC soap opera General Hospital. His role as Miguel Morez challenged him to learn 20 scenes a day, highlighting the demanding nature of daytime television. During his time on the show, Martin found a favorite scene partner in Lilly Melgar, who played Lily Corinthos. He praised Melgar’s talent and professionalism, showing his appreciation for the collaboration.

Martin’s latest project on Apple TV+ is Palm Royale, where he portrays Robert Diaz, a bartender at a country club in 1969. Alongside renowned actress Carol Burnett and talented comedian Kristen Wiig, Martin continues to showcase his acting range. Palm Royale offers Martin the opportunity to delve into a different era and interact with a diverse cast of characters, further expanding his acting repertoire.
