The popular middle-grade book series, Kiranmala & The Kingdom Beyond, is set to receive the animated television adaptation treatment. This exciting news has been making waves in the entertainment industry, with Submarine and Rebel Maverick joining forces to bring the beloved characters and stories to life on the small screen.

Sayantani DasGupta’s book series made its debut in 2018 with The Serpent’s Secret, captivating readers with its magical world and strong female protagonist, Kiranmala. The success of the first book led to sequels, with Kiranmala & The Kingdom Beyond: Game of Stars hitting the New York Times bestseller list in 2019. The third installment, Kiranmala & The Kingdom Beyond: The Chaos Curse, was published in 2020, further expanding the universe of the series.

The animated TV adaptation will focus on the first book trilogy, bringing the adventures of Kiranmala to a whole new audience. Animation writer veteran Michael Ryan, known for his work on Wolfboy and the Everything Factory and Scooby-Doo and Guess Who?, will be teaming up with Sayantani DasGupta to adapt the stories for television. The pilot episode will be written by Ryan, with Submarine and Rebel Maverick serving as producers.

Submarine Sublime’s co-founder, Bruno Felix, and company development head Phil Molloy will be executive producing the series, along with Rebel Maverick’s Matt Nicholas and Nastassja Kayln. Jane Kim Yang and Victoria Nguyen will oversee the project’s development, ensuring that the show stays true to the spirit of the original books. The project is expected to hit international and U.S. markets in the coming year.

Netherlands-based Submarine, also known as Submarine Sublime, has a strong track record in the animation industry, with projects like Undone and Apollo 10 1/2 under its belt. Rebel Maverick, on the other hand, is a dynamic writing and production team with ties to major players in the entertainment industry. Together, these two companies are poised to create an exciting and engaging TV series for audiences of all ages to enjoy.

In addition to the Kiranmala & The Kingdom Beyond adaptation, Rebel Maverick has a slate of upcoming projects with top-tier collaborators, including Sony and George Tillman Jr’s State Street Pictures. The team recently executive produced the indie horror feature Fanged and is now working on the adult anime series Allure: The Evening Primrose, featuring Grand Slam tennis champion Naomi Osaka in a leading role.

Rebel Maverick is represented by Navigation Media Group and Hirsch, Wallerstein, Matlof, Hayum, and Fishman, while Michael Ryan is repped by Gotham Group and Sayantani DasGupta is represented by Triada US Literary Agency.
